Group Updates


Coinciding with Dickerson’s enhanced support for Northern California brokers, Aetna has joined forces with Sutter Health to create a new Northern California health plan! Their new insurance options, which serve the greater Sacramento, Central Valley and Bay Area, will be available in 2018, pending regulatory approval.

With more than 3 million Northern California members, Sutter Health is widely respected for its high-quality doctors and health facilities. It also shares a common vision with Aetna: to modernize health care by providing personalized, coordinated and affordable care to groups and their employees.

In addition to their new self-funded and full-insured PPO options, Aetna and Sutter Health are introducing new treatment strategies. Using data analytics to identify at-risk populations, Aetna and Sutter providers can give at-risk members early access to preventive care and population health technology in order to prevent or treat chronic and other health conditions.

    •    If you sell 1 group plan with at least 35 lives OR a total annualized premium of $28,000, you will receive a $200 gift card to a fabulous restaurant.

Anthem Blue Cross

In our most recent Dickerson Update, we announced Anthem’s new Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) plans for groups of 2-9 employees. These new products will be available on an employer-sponsored basis, starting with 7/1/2017 effective dates. To clarify plan details for you and your clients, Anthem has just released their reference guide for 2-9 Disability plans. Click here to access the guide.

Remember, Anthem does not require a DE9C for specialty-only sales! This includes standalone sales of Dental, Vision, Life and Disability, as well as additions of ancillary products alongside existing medical plans.

Did you know that Anthem members can earn up to 15% cash back on purchases from many well-known retailers? Through a special partnership with PayForward, Anthem members earn cash rewards when they shop at any of 12,000 participating stores, which include Home Depot, The Gap and Target. Blue Shield of California

In case you haven’t heard, now is an excellent time to sell Blue Shield’s Trio plans. The Trio Incentive Program is going strong as it continues to pay brokers $250 for each new Trio group and $25 per new Trio member. To make it easy to earn these rewards, Blue Shield has lowered their Q4 Trio plan rates by an average of 5.8%!

But that’s not all: Starting July 1, Blue Shield will waive all participation requirements for groups of 1-100 when they enroll in a Trio-only plan. Participation requirements will remain waived even if groups add dental or vision benefits to their Trio medical plan! Click here to quote Blue Shield plans with Dickerson today.

Specialty sales through Blue Shield just got a whole lot easier. Now, when small groups add dental and/or vision to a new or existing medical plan, they get a 5% bundling discount! Regarding life insurance, Blue Shield has lowered their composite rates for groups with 10+ employees. Plus, their life insurance Quick Match program for groups of 51-100 has been extended through the end of 2017!

By matching your groups’ current life insurance providers’ renewal rates, Quick Match speeds up the underwriting process and saves your clients valuable time and money. Covered California (Individual and CCSB)

Dickerson has been advised of a discrepancy in the CCSB Kaiser rates for specific plans on our HealthConnect quoting system for quotes run between 5/26/17 and 6/14/17. All issues have now been corrected on HealthConnect. Please disregard any prior CCSB Kaiser quotes that include the plans below and contact Dickerson to receive a revised quote for your affected groups.

The affected plans were:
    •    Kaiser Platinum 90 HMO 0/15
    •    Kaiser Platinum 90 HMO 0/10 Alt

Remember, Covered California’s new CalHEERS Agency Portal is coming soon! New, corresponding Agency and Non-Monetary Agreements will also be released soon, in early July. If you missed our summary of the new agreements in the last Dickerson Update, here’s a quick recap:
    •    The Agency Agreement must be filled out by individual agents and managers of agencies responsible for submitting business to Covered California. Agencies with 2 or more agents who write business under the same Tax ID must select an Agency Manager. The agent selected will oversee all business carried out by brokers in their agency. Agency Managers must be certified and licensed insurance agents.
    •    The Non-Monetary Agreement is to be signed by agents employed by an agency. This is a standard agreement designed to ensure they meet their contractual obligations with Covered California.

In addition to the online portal, Covered California has also updated their Special Enrollment Social Media Tool Kit, which contains high-resolution logos, digital banners, shareable images, and sample posts. These resources are available in English and Spanish, and they are great for spreading the word about Covered California on social media and other online platforms! Health Net Large Group

Health Net is giving their large group members more member wellness incentives. Their popular Wellness Rewards Program will now offer your groups’ employees more rewards for healthy habits, including a $50 gift card when they take a Health Risk Questionnaire (HRQ).

Health Net’s wellness program will include employees covered by the following products and networks, available in Health Net’s Enhanced Choice and Starting Lineup portfolios:
    •    HMO
    •    Salud HMO y Más
    •    HMO ExcelCare
    •    EOA
    •    EOA ExcelCare

The Wellness Rewards Program expansion will apply to new AND renewing 101+ groups with 7/1/17 effective dates and beyond. If you would like sales material covering the program, log in to your Health Net Broker Portal, select “California Large Group,” and click on Forms & Brochures. There, you will find Employer FAQs, brochures, broker flyers, and much more.

Wellness programs are gaining popularity among employers, so be sure to suggest Health Net to your clients!


Do your clients have questions about compliance, but don’t know where to start? With the ever-changing landscape of government regulations, it can be hard to stay abreast of current employer requirements. Luckily, TASC provides guidance with its new resource, the Compliance Central Dashboard. This new feature gives employers a starting point to gauge their specific compliance needs. Here’s how it works:

    1.    Answer simple questions about a specific group and its benefit plans
    2.    Receive a generated list of the group’s potential non-compliance areas
    3.    Review suggested solutions to these areas of liability, along with recommended products and services

It’s that easy! You and/or your clients can access this valuable tool by logging into your MyTASC account and selecting “Compliance Central Dashboard” from the main menu on the homepage.
